Literacy Upgrading

Classes are held in-person at Steinbach, Manitoba’s Jake Epp Library from September through June. They are free for residents of Manitoba.

Reading and Writing Upgrading

Improve your English reading and writing skills, such as:

  • Comprehension

  • Written organization & formatting

  • Understanding many types of documents

  • Speaking & listening skills

  • Workplace literacy skills

  • Skills for college/university

The classes are flexible to accommodate your personal schedule.

A Stage 3 Literacy Certificate may be applied for up to 2 credits towards the Mature High School Diploma.

Tuesday and Thursday morning classes will begin Oct. 1, 2026

Morning Classes:

Mondays: 10 am - 12 pm
Tuesdays: 9:30am - 12:30pm
Thursdays: 9:30am - 12:30pm
Fridays: 10 am - 12 pm

Evening Classes:

Wednesdays: 5:30 pm - 8 pm
Thursdays: 6:30 pm - 8 pm

Math Upgrading

Learn or relearn math and problem-solving skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percentages, and measurements.

Basic Computer

Learn to use Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint for your Reading and Writing or Math assignments.

Afternoon Class:

Fridays: 1 pm - 4 pm


(Students must be enrolled in Reading and Writing or Math Upgrading classes to participate in this class.)

Families Learning Together

These classes are free for newcomer parents with children ages 5 and under.

  • Parent Child Time (1 hour and 15 minutes) - songs, rhymes, stories, crafts

  • Parent Class Time and Children’s Activity Time (1 hour) - learn everyday English (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) and parenting skills while children learn English, social skills and motor skills with qualified child care supervisors.
